What is a Dermatopathologist
A dermatopathologist is a specialized medical doctor who has completed additional training to evaluate skin biopsies for diagnosis. This training allows a dermatopathologist to read skin biopsies and diagnose skin cancers at a cellular level.
Dr. Urquhart’s patients benefit from her extensive training with in-house skin pathology services, which lead to faster results for skin cancer screenings.
Primary care physicians, dermatologists, plastic surgeons and other medical professionals in Summit County and Eagle County also benefit from Dr. Urquhart’s expertise with collaboration through patient referrals.
Dermatopathologists are either dermatologists or pathologists first. After completing their training in dermatology or pathology, these physicians pursue fellowships in dermatopathology which allows them to specialize in diagnosing skin cancer and skin disease.
Dr. Urquhart completed her dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center working in collaboration with dermatologists, dermatopathologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, oncologic surgeons and surgical pathologists. Dr. Urquhart and Dr. Lauren Bonati, our Mohs surgeon, collaborate frequently to provide the best care possible for their patients.
